According to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), a total of 25,637 properties were added in the 2022-23 financial year.

The civic body's tax department, with the addition, aims to recover Rs 1,000 crore in property tax in the current fiscal.

"In the last five years, the number of properties in the city has been on the rise. In 2017, there were 4.5 lakh properties within the PCMC limits, while the number rose to 5.4 lakh in the 2020-21 fiscal. Many multi-national companies have set up offices here. Hence, people from all over the country live in this area for employment," Nilesh Deshmukh, head of the PCMC's tax department, said.

Deshmukh said there are 17 property tax divisional offices in the twin cities, of which the growth rate is highest in areas of Wakad, Chikhli, Moshi, Kiwale, Charholi, Thergaon, Sangvi, Bhosari, and Dighi-Bopkhel.

PCMC civic chief Shekhar Singh said the growth rate of properties in Pimpri Chinchwad is higher as compared to surrounding areas as there are wide roads, parks, playgrounds and other basic amenities.

"PCMC faces two challenges - providing sufficient water and sustainable development. These will be given priority. Through the new survey, we are trying to collect necessary information. This will make it easy for us to identify the needs and make planned development possible," he added.
