Pune: The Japanese firm, Oriental Yeast, has announced that it has invested Rs 900 crore into a new yeast manufacturing plant at MIDC Khandala, in the Satara district, near Pune.
The facility is expected to create 1,000 new direct and indirect jobs.
“This new plant is a testimony of our commitment to India and is an important milestone for our international expansion.
The plant will offer innovative yeast products, and services to cater to the burgeoning demand of large food chains, local bakers and other allied industries. Aligned with the Make in India initiative this plant will reduce dependence on yeast imports into India,” said Masashi Nakagawa, chairman of Oriental Yeast India, and president of Oriental Yeast Company in Japan. Oriental Yeast added that the new facility at MIDC Khandala is equipped to produce around 33,000 million tonnes of yeast in its first phase.
