Pune: A 35-year-old man from Kothrud was arrested on Monday for allegedly torching five two-wheelers in the parking lot of More Vihar Housing Society at Shivane over a family dispute on Sunday.
Ramesh Madhukar Shinde was arrested by a police team led by sub-inspsector KB Jadhav after his sister-in-law Radhika Shinde lodged a complaint with the police.
Investigations have revealed that Shinde had tried to set Radhika's scooter on fire around two months ago. "However, the fire was immediately doused and no complaint was lodged then," Jadhav said.
As many as five two-wheelers were gutted in an early morning blaze at More Vihar Housing Society on Sunday. Though the Pune fire brigade managed to douse the fire within 10 minutes, panic prevailed in the area with the residents of the building taking refuge on the terrace. "During investigations, we got to know that Radhika had a dispute with her brother-in-law over some family issue. On Saturday night, they had an argument over the same issue. Suspecting his involvement in the incident, we took him into custody for questioning," he said.
Shinde admitted to have set Radhika's vehicle on fire. "We are investigating, how he reached Uttamnagar and whether anyone assisted him in torching the vehicles," Jadhav added.
