One held for piracy of Sairat film

PUNE: Chandannagar police arrested a 39 year old man for allegedly selling pirated versions of the Marathi blockbuster film ‘Sairat’ to customers. He was operating from a shop located on old Mundhwa road in Chandannagar.

A police team swung into action after Sunil Shivaji Medhekar, a resident of Pimpri who works as an officer with an anti-piracy company based in Mumbai, lodged a complaint with the police.

Senior police inspector Anil Pathrudkar and sub inspector Jaywant Jadhav raided the shop and seized 225 DVDs of different English and Marathi films. Police also found 82 DVDs of Sairat film in his possession. The team also found many CDs of adult films in the shop.

Police have seized a computer, DVD player, LCD monitor and DVDs totally worth Rs 2.57 lakh. Police arrested the shop keeper identified as Rehman Abdul Shaikh (39), a resident of Vadgaon Sheri, who was later on released on bail. He was arrested under the provisions of Copy Right Act, 1957.

Police said Shaikh has taken the shop on the rent and charges money to download Hindi and Marathi film songs in pen drive of his customers. Police are investigating from where he brought the pirated version of Sairat film as it is a good film.
