A press statement by Meghana Sabde, founder of Nrityayatri said that, Samviksana will be a traditional Bharatnatyam performance of Rangarajan’s specially choreographed epic poems.
Rangarajan is a disciple of senior danseuse, choreographer, teacher and author. Rangarajan is also conducting a 3 day workshop for Bharatnatyam students in Pune.
This workshop will focus on her own choreography depicting few ‘Karnas’ which are indeed very difficult to perform and Rangarajan have beautifully implemented them in Bharatnatyam, said the statement. It will also focus on geometry and perfection in Bharatnatyam and special exercises for facial expressions that one needs to showcase while dancing and which are also considered as one of the most crucial part of any Bharatnatyam performance.
The ‘Karnas’ are basically 108 movements of Lord Nataraja which are carved on the pillars of Chidambaram Temple in Tamilnadu. Karnas have innate musicality to them and the elements of Karnas can be found in all the classical dance forms of India.
