Road from Ambegaon Pathar to Katraj Chowk a nightmare
Motorists have a tough time navigating the 2-km stretch
PUNE: A 2-km stretch between Ambegaon Pathar and Katraj Chowk has become a nightmare for commuters as it is littered with potholes.Residents said that constant movement of heavy vehicles has severely damaged the road. Officials of the PWD wing of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) said that the repair work would be completed within a fortnight. “I use this road regularly to drop my daughter to school. The entire patch from Ambegaon to Katraj is in poor shape. It is very difficult to drive a two-wheeler through this stretch due to heavy traffic. The poor condition of the road adds to the problem,” Geeta Dalvi, a resident of Narhe, said.Shailesh Aradhye, a daily commuter, said, “Before the construction started for the flyover, the condition of the road was better. But now its condition has deteriorated in the last few months. The authorities should take necessary steps to avoid the hassles faced by commuters,” he said.Katraj, Ambegaon, Narhe and Kondhwa are close to the national highway. So, the trucks and other heavy vehicles pass through these areas in large numbers.
The volume of traffic increases at night, increasing the threat of accidents.According to NHAI, removal and relaying of utility cables is a complicated issue. All this has been delaying repair work. Temporary road maintenance is done on a regular basis. But permanent repairs would be completed in around two months.“We are coordinating with various authorities to speed up the construction work. A deadline has been set for March next year to complete the pending works,” Mahesh Patil, an official of the PWD department of NHAI, said.We also published the following articles recently
