PUNE: The Shirdi airport on Sunday started night landing services more than 2 years after DGCA has given the licence for the same to the facility.
The first flight from Hyderabad to Shirdi landed at the airport at around 9.20pm.
“Night landing service has started at Shirdi Airport today on the auspicious occasion of Gudipadwa which will definitely help increase the number of devotees coming to Shirdi. In addition, industrial development in Shirdi and its surroundings will also be promoted and this will have a positive impact on the economy of this area,” minister of state for civil aviation Murlidhar Mohol said.
“The start of night landing at Shirdi airport, is an important stage not only for Shirdi but also for Ahilyanagar and surrounding districts. All permits regarding ATC, fulfillment of CISF soldiers as well as re carpeting of runway was undertaken. Also, the concerned departments were also notified to complete the work on time. In addition to the start of Night Landing, there was a detailed discussion with the authorities and it has been successful to start the service one day before the scheduled date today,” Mohol added.
The night landing licence was granted to the facility in February 2023. However the airport couldn’t start the same mainly because airlines weren’t interested. Earlier this year the re-carpeting of the runway had started and authorities had said that by March end the work will be over and night landing will begin. Until now the airport was operational from 10am till 6pm.
