PUNE: Starting this year, the National Insurance Academy (NIA) will coincide its campus recruitment with that of India’s premier B-schools, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).NIA director K.C. Mishra told TOI that unlike the previous two years, this year’s "bold decision" will see both recruitment processes occurring in mid-December."Most B-schools start the placement process much before December to prevent companies from rushing to IIMs and not visiting their campuses," he explained.
"In the initial two years, we also did the same. But as we have grown, we want to see if we have attained the stature to lure companies like the IIMs do," he said.
NIA officials explained that in the past two years, companies, including insurance, financial and IT firms with insurance verticals, and MNC brokers had employed all the MBAs, much ahead of placement week. "We have a 100% placement record," Mishra said."The idea is to step out of the IIMs shadow and test the usefulness and maturity of the academy," he said. "And why not, ours is one of the premier institutes in India offering management degrees in the booming insurance sector," he said, explaining the MBA programme was started in 2004 to cater to repeated demands from the insurance industry for "human capital that combines technical insurance skills with managerial foresight to foster the progress of the industry."Apart from a full-time AICTE-approved MBA programme of two years, NIA also runs an executive programme for working professionals.
