PUNE: The National Film Archives of India (NFAI) will be showcasing material from 300 classic films restored at the institution as part of the National Film Heritage Mission at the International Film Festival of India in Goa later this month.
"NFAI has restored nearly 300 Indian films till date. The exhibition will encompass posters, visuals, famous dialogues and songs from these classics.
It would help in promoting the culture and importance of film preservation," said Prakash Magdum, the director of NFAI.
Apart from the exhibition, some restored films would be screened during the festival to be held between November 20 and 30. NFAI has also sourced many films to the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF) for various theme-based screenings.This is for the first time NFAI will organise an exhibition at such a large scale. The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP) has been roped in for the event.The winner of the online contest to design the logo of the National Film Heritage Mission would also be declared at the festival. The Mission's aim is to restore, preserve, digitise and conserve the film heritage of the country.
NFAI recently received the original negatives of 19 films, including five documentaries. The feature films include Mangal Pandey: The Rising directed by Ketan Mehta, In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones directed by Pradip Krishen, Maqbool directed by Vishal Bharadwaj and some Bengali films made by Rituparno Ghosh, the press release stated.
NFAI has recently received a few films in VHS format from the private collection of Avinash Limaye, a senior citizen from Pune. "NFAI thanks his gesture and appeals to the public to come forward and donate rare films, footage and other material so that they could be preserved for posterity," Magdum said.
