PUNE:
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidates won the elections unopposed to all the six posts of zone presidents of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation after the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress candidates withdrew their nominations.
There are six zones in the Pimpri Chinchwad civic body and each has a president elected every year from among the corporators whose wards are in that particular zone.
The elections to these six posts were held at the main office building in Pimpri. The ruling Nationalist Congress Party has a clear majority in all the zones and its candidates were expected to win.
NCP candidates Vaishali Kalbhor, Vinaya Tapkir and Shubhangi Borhade were elected presidents of Zones A, E and F unopposed as they were the lone candidates who had submitted their nominations. NCP candidate Sandeep Chinchwade of NCP and Sheetal Shinde of BJP were the two candidates for the post of Zone B president. But Shinde withdrew his nomination as a result Chinchwade was elected as unopposed.
Kiran Mote of NCP and Geeta Mancharkar of Congress were the two candidates for the post of Zone C president. But Mancharkar withdrew her nomination as a result Mote was elected as unopposed.
