PUNE: Nominated NCP corporator Uttam Hirwe has been disqualified for manhandling two physically challenged employees of the Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporation in 2009.
A government resolution (GR) issued by the state urban development department, on January 5, states that Hirwe had on November 25, 2009, beaten up two physically challenged employees, Arun Vitthal Kale and Balu Tupe, at their workplace in Bhoirnagar (Dalvinagar).
The PCMC had sent a notice to Hirwe asking him why he should not be disqualified for misbehaviour. The general body (GB) of the PCMC unanimously approved a resolution on June 19 last year to disqualify him.
The civic administration had tabled a proposal in the GB on January 19 last year to seek approval for sending a proposal to the state government, recommending disqualification of Hirwe. The general body decided to send a show-cause notice to Hirwe. Later, the municipal commissioner was asked to table a proposal before the general body again with the administration's stand on the reply given by Hirwe.
The civic administration sent a show-cause notice to Hirwe on March 2 last year. His reply was rejected by the civic administration. The general body then approved a resolution to disqualify Hirwe and sent it to the state for approval.
Amrut Sawant, assistant commissioner and chief of administration department, said, "Hirwe has been disqualified with immediate effect. A copy of the GR will be sent to him. The municipal secretary will prepare the new election schedule."
Municipal secretary Subhash Kale said, "A report on appointment of nominated corporators and the GR will be tabled before the municipal commissioner."
