Mulshi resort worker held on charge of $8,500 theft

Pune: The Pune Rural police on Monday arrested an employee of a resort in Mulshi on the charge of stealing 8,500 US dollar (Rs6.80 lakh) from the purse a woman customer.
The theft came to light on Sunday when the woman realized the cash was missing from her purse.
The security in charge of the resort on Monday filed a complaint against one of the employees of the resort.
“The man has been remanded to police custody till March 2. We are yet to recover the cash,” inspector Manojkumar Yadav of Paud police told TOI.
Yadav said the woman and her two relatives had come from the US and booked three rooms in the resort on February 25. “Around 7pm on Saturday, the trio locked their rooms and went to the resort’s dining area for food. The following morning, the woman realized the cash was missing from her purse, which was in the room,” Yadav said.
He said the complainant and his team checked the logs of the digital key and found that a key was used when the woman was in the dining area of the resort.
“The arrested employee, however, denied his involvement in the theft. We are also questioning other employees,” Yadav added.
