PUNE: Veteran author D M Mirasdar was selected president of the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad (MSP), the apex literary body in the city. One of the oldest organisation for the promotion of Marathi literature, the parishad was established in 1906.
"Mirasdar's name was finalised at a meeting on Sunday. Other names, including that of vice presidents and other local representatives, were also elected unanimously," said Madhavi Vaidya, executive president of the MSP.
According to Vaidya, D T Bhonsle and P C Shejwalkar will be vice presidents of the MSP. All members of the working committee will serve a five-year term.
The MSP plays an active role in organizing the all India Marathi literary meets in the country. International literary meets are also being organised for promoting Marathi literature abroad.
About the change in venue of this year's international Marathi literary meet, which was scheduled to be held in Mauritius in July (it will now be shifted to Singapore), Vaidya said, "We have heard about these changes. But we dot have much details as we were busy in the elections of the MSP and could not attend the meeting of the Maharashtra Sahitya Mahamandal, the apex Marathi body in the state, which decides on the schedule of the literary meets. We will attend a meeting of Mahamandal on May 8," Vaidya said.
