Minister lauds transformation of medical edu, Sudha Murty inspires graduates at Bharati Vidyapeeth convocation

Pune: Union minister of state, Ayush ministry, Prataprao Jadhav on Thursday lauded the rapid transformation of medical education in India, emphasising on improved infrastructure and a renewed focus on quality and inclusivity during the Bharati Vidyapeeth’s 27th convocation ceremony that also saw author, philanthropist and Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murty conferred with the Doctor of Letters (honoris causa).

Murty urged students to embrace both success and failure as integral parts of life. She said integrity, compassion and resilience were important and true achievement lay not only in personal success, but in uplifting others.

Degrees were awarded to 9,066 graduates during the convocation. In addition, 140 students received PhD degrees and 27 students were honoured with gold medals for academic excellence.

Speaking to students, Jadhav said India’s healthcare education ecosystem was undergoing a significant shift, driven by policy reforms and increased institutional capacity. He said the country was producing more medical professionals, who are globally competent and socially responsible. “India’s strength lies in its youth and its institutions,” he said, adding that the graduating students would play a crucial role to strengthen the healthcare system.

The ceremony was attended by chancellor Shivajirao Kadam, vice-chancellor Vivek Saoji and pro-vice-chancellor Vishwajeet Kadam, among others.

Meanwhile, In her online address, Murty said, “Life is neither a continuous journey of success nor is it defined by failure alone. It is a balance of both, together with the ability to learn from each experience.” She encouraged students to remain grounded and maintain their values, while pursuing professional excellence.

Saoji presented a comprehensive report of the university’s progress. He said the institution had established academic collaborations with over 200 national and international organisations. The university had secured research funding exceeding Rs28 crore from reputed agencies this year.
