PUNE: Investigations into the
robbery at Bibvewadi where two men, posing as gas cylinder delivery boys, robbed housewife Rajeshwari Nadar earlier this week, took a dramatic turn when the police discovered that the victim's husband was behind the theft.
The husband, Suresh Nadar, who was arrested on Friday night, was remanded to police custody till October 26 on Saturday.
The police sought his custody to find out exactly why he had asked his friend and another accomplice to rob his wife. The police told the court that Nadar has mortgaged some of the stolen jewellery at a jeweller's.
Sachin Utekar (21) of Ambegaon Budruk and Kiran Naik (23) of Dhankawdi, the men who had stolen the gold ornaments worth Rs 2.13 lakh after tying up Rajeshwari, were also sent to police custody till October 26 on Friday.
Interrogations revealed that Nadar and Uttekar work at the same printing press in Sadashiv Peth while Naik is Utekar's friend. Both the accused confessed that they robbed Rajeshwari at Nadar's insistence in exchange for money.
Investigating officer sub-inspector R S Jagdale confirmed Nadar's involvement. It was also revealed that Nadar had taken a loan and needed money to repay it. So he asked his friend Utekar to steal his wife's jewellery.
The police have recovered ornaments worth Rs 40,000 and a Splendour motorcycle from Utekar and Naik.
