Pune: The Indian Association of Paediatrics on Sunday will hold a meeting with the officials of the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad municipal corporations, as well as the World Health Organization, for better reporting and vaccination among children to prevent the spread of measles infection.
As a pro-active measure, PMC will survey around 100 houses around suspected cases. “We have already told our doctors at the civic OPDs to ensure that every child under the age of five with fever for over three days and with rash is treated as a suspected measles case,” Dr Suryakant Devkar, chief immunization officer and assistant health officer, PMC, said.
Most of the suspected cases in the city are from Yerawada, Kothrud, Mundhwa and Balajinagar, officials said. Dr Parag Gaikwad, president, Indian Association of Pediatrics, Pune Chapter, said, “During the Sunday’s meeting, we will train paediatricians regarding the government protocol on measles detection.” — Steffy Thevar
