Medicos pitch in with services for rain affected people in Pune
PUNE: The 250-odd members of Baner-Balewadi Medicos Association (BBMA) have been helping people affected by water-logging and temporarily sheltered at the PMC school in Balewadi. The doctors have formed teams of 4-5 per team and are offering their services in shifts.
“The medical shops are open and hence we are buying medicines and stocking it up, apart from the ones being donated.

There are 500 people currently in the school. We treated them from around 7 pm till 10 pm last night and in morning, we started around 8am and have been working since then. Every team of 4-5 doctors works for about 1-2 hours,” said Dr Rajesh Deshpande, founder of BBMA.
Deshpande further said that an ambulance is stationed at the school for any emergency and there are three hospitals ie Saishree Hospital, AIMS hospital and Medipoint-vitalife hospital attached to the association.
He said, Most people are suffering from fever and skin issues. “We have treated about 100 people till now. Most people are suffering from weather related ailments. Then there are people suffering skin issues and then there are people with Ear-Nose-throat problems. General Physicians are mostly in demand as the nature of problems faced by most people is of such nature. However we also have all specialist on call, in case of an emergency,” added Deshpande.
