The mandals who have taken up the initiative include Tulshibaug Ganapati, Hutatma Babu Genu Mandal, Shree Gajlakshmi Trust, Aamhi Punekar organisation and Riders of Dakkhan group.

A team of 75 riders will be deployed for the service, which will be available 24/7 on call. The team will focus on densely populated areas.

As per organisers, the riders have been trained for dealing with emergencies, including first aid and counselling of the patient. The riders have also received training in lifting and shifting the patient to the ambulance.

"The group is providing 40 ambulances. We will also rope in two-wheeler riders for the service. During the festive period, it will become difficult for ambulances to travel through narrow lanes, so we decided to start the facility and send two-wheeler ambulances," Hemant Jadhav, a group member, said.

People can seek aid by calling toll-free number 108.

Many mandals have been providing facilities like medical aid, public toilets, and free food and water to visitors. A few have also been conducting health camps like eye check-ups, pathology tests, diabetes awareness and other programmes.
