Pune: Late on Monday evening, the Airport police arrested a man for breaking the window of a car to steal a laptop and a smartphone, totally worth Rs71,000.
Police inspector Ramesh Sathe of Airport police station said that constables CR Veer and GV Ghodke were patrolling the Vimannagar area at around 6.30pm on Monday. “They found Satish Bhojraj (30) of Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu roaming in the area suspiciously.
The constables were questioning Bhojraj when the car owner Satish Madanmohan Sharma reached the spot and told them about the theft,” Sathe said.
The officer added, “The two constables then showed the laptop bag and the smart phone to Sharma, who immediately told police that the valuables belonged to him.”
Sharma, lodged a complaint with the police saying that he had reached the area and parked his car in front of a hotel. He went to have some snacks in the hotel. On his return, Sharma found that somebody had broken the window of his car and, upon inspection, he found that his laptop and cell phone were missing.
Sathe said that the police are questioning Bhojraj. Prime facie, the police suspect that Bhojraj may be in Pune with other accomplices and the group may have been operating in different parts of the city, stealing valuables from cars after breaking their windows. “Bhojraj had smashed the car window with a heavy object,” Sathe stated.
According to the police, Bhojraj told them that he and his two accomplices had come to Pune on the same day by a train. After alighting from the train at Pune railway station, all of them split after planning to execute thefts in the same fashion.
