PUNE: A 28-year-old labourer allegedly killed his friend's wife and then committed suicide at Malavli near Lonavla, around 50 km from Pune on Monday.
The Lonavla rural police have identified the woman as Archana Tukaram Panchal (19) and the labourer as
Sharad Jadhav (28).
According to the police, Jadhav and the woman's husband, Tukaram Panchal, were friends and had been staying together in Malavli for two years.
Last year, Tukaram had married Archana and the three had been living in the same house.
In the complaint lodged by Tukaram with the Lonavla rural police, Jadhav suspected his wife of being unfaithful. "Jadhav would scold Archana whenever he found her talking to the neighbours," Pawar said.
On Monday, around 7.30 am, Panchal had gone to work. Jadhav, Archana and Panchal's mother, who had come to visit them, were in the house. Around 11 am, when the three of them were talking outside, Jadhav asked Archana to come inside the house and closed the door. Panchal's mother heard the two quarreling and then heard Archana screaming. "When she looked inside, she saw Archana lying in a pool of blood and Jadhav hanging from the ceiling," Pawar said.
He said the neighbours broke open the door and entered the house. They rushed both Jadhav and Archana to a nearby hospital, where Jadhav was declared dead on arrival. The doctor advised them to shift Archana to a government hospital but she succumbed on the way to the hospital, Pawar added.
