The suspect took the goods on credit from the distributors and fled after closing his shop on November 8. One of the distributors, Sanjay Shah (53), of Camp lodged a complaint with the Sahakarnagar police.

An officer of the Sahakarnagar police said the conman from Rajasthan had started the shop at Balajinagar in Dhankawdi in March this year. “He had approached many distributors and took handsets, accessories and LED television sets in small quantities on credit,” the officer said, adding that the suspect won confidence of the distributors by clearing their dues immediately.

“Recently, he bought 2,436 cellphone handsets, 2,156 accessories and 12 TV sets from these distributors on credit. They gave him the goods on credit because he was regular in making payments,” the officer said.

When the suspect did not make any payment and stopped answering the calls, the distributors went to his shop in Dhankawdi on November 8and found it was closed. The police have registered the offence under sections 420 (cheating) and 406 (criminal breach of trust) of the IPC.
