Parbhani recorded the highest turnout at 74.89 per cent, while Ratnagiri reported the lowest at 55.79 per cent. Kolhapur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar also saw strong participation. Vote counting is scheduled for February 9.
Originally planned for February 5, the elections were postponed after the death of deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash and the declaration of state mourning. The polls are being viewed as the first significant electoral test since the incident, particularly for the Nationalist Congress Party, whose rival factions contested the elections together in key regions of western Maharashtra.
The local bodies were last elected in 2017, when the NCP emerged as the single largest party with 225 seats. The BJP finished second, followed by the Congress and Shiv Sena. Independents and smaller parties also played a notable role, reflecting the fragmented nature of grassroots politics in the state.
