PUNE: Some persons broke open a window of Maharashtra cricket team captain Rohit Motwani's parked car on Bund Garden Road late on Sunday night and fled with his wife's jewellery worth Rs 4.97 lakh.
Motwani had gone to attend a function at a luxury hotel on Bund Garden Road in his car. He had parked his vehicle on the road outside the facility. Some unidentified persons broke the front window on the left side of his car and decamped with the ornaments.
Motwani told TOI that he had gone to the function on Sunday around 9.30pm with his wife and in-laws.
"An employee of the hotel told me that the valet parking of the hotel was full and requested me to park the car on the road," the Maharashtra cricket team captain said.
Motwani said he had parked the car along the footpath near the Five Star Society on Bund Garden Road and went inside the hotel to attend the function. "The event was over around 12.30am. When I reached near the car, I found its left front window broken," he said.
The cricketer said before going inside the hotel, he had kept the purse containing his wife's jewellery under the seat.
"When I checked, I found that it was not there. I had an emotional attachment to the stolen ornaments because they were a part of our wedding jewellery," he said.
Motwani has lodged a complaint with the Koregaon Park police station. "We are investigating further," said the police station's senior inspector, Rajendra Patil.
