PUNE: Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Friday said that the opposition is misleading youngsters by saying that the state is encouraging privatisation of government jobs. He added that the government's move to fill up some posts on a contract basis is temporary.

"I am being unnecessarily trolled. The government is in process of recruiting 1.5 lakh candidates in different departments," Pawar told media persons on Friday.

His statement came on a day when several MPSC aspirants staged a protest in front of the district collectorate against the government's decision to fill up government posts on a contractual basis.

They were joined by Aam Aadmi Party whose members agitated in Navi Peth. NCP working president Supriya Sule had criticised the state government on Thursday over the same issue.

Pawar accused the opposition of double standards. "The decision to fill up some posts on a contract basis was taken by the previous government. Now that they are not in power, they are blaming the current government," he said.

The deputy chief minister claimed that the government wants to ensure that no service is hampered due to vacant posts.

"Health and education departments cannot afford to keep posts vacant for long and people will be appointed temporarily on a contract basis. Once candidates are recruited, these contracts will be withdrawn," Pawar said.
