PUNE: The Sangvi police registered a case on Wednesday night against a 27-year-old man from a housing society in Inglenagar, Pimple Nilakh, on charges of setting 13 two-wheelers on fire in the building's parking lot following a quarrel with his family. The incident took place around 3.30am on Wednesday, and a 62-year-old resident of the society filed a complaint with the police.
Sub-inspector Bhimsen Shikhare of the Sangvi police told TOI that both the complainant and the suspect are residents of the same housing society in Pimple Nilakh. "The suspect, who is an alcoholic, used to harass his parents and brother. The complainant and other residents even helped the family admit the man to a rehabilitation center recently," Shikhare said.
Shikhare further said that late on Tuesday night, the suspect had a heated argument with his family members. "Around 3.30am on Wednesday, the suspect went to the parking lot and set his mother's and brother's two-wheelers on fire. The fire spread and engulfed 11 more two-wheelers in the parking lot," he said.
Some residents noticed the man while he was setting the vehicles on fire. The police have booked him under section 326 (mischief by injury, inundation, fire, or explosive substance) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "We are yet to arrest him," Shikhare added.
