Life term for two youths for murder

The court of additional sessions judge N P Dhote on Tuesday sentenced two accused to life imprisonment and fine of Rs 1,000 each for murdering Eknath Dagdu Kamble (25) from Sawantwadi in Shirur taluka in 2010.

PUNE: The court of additional sessions judge N P Dhote on Tuesday sentenced two accused to life imprisonment and fine of Rs 1,000 each for murdering Eknath Dagdu Kamble (25) from Sawantwadi in Shirur taluka in 2010.
The accused are Sharad Devram Shelke (26) and Yogesh Madhav Andhale (22) from Shirur. The court further sentenced Shelke and Andhale to 10 years and five years rigorous imprisonment with fine of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 respectively.

Shelke was also sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment for criminal intimidation. The sentences will run concurrently.
However, the court acquitted five suspects Ashwini alias Seema Sharad Shelke, Popat Thakaji Gangad, Sunita Ramchandra Andhale, Sachin Subhash Udhav and Nitin Suresh Gangad all from Shirur and Ahmednagar due to lack of evidence.
The victim Eknath Kamble was working with a private company at Lonikand.
The prosecution's case is that on December 11. 2010, Kamble had boarded a private bus after finishing his duty when the suspects reached there on separate vehicles. One of the suspects Udhav boarded the bus and asked Kamble to alight as the accused Sharad Shelke had come to meet him.
Additional public prosecutor Chandrakiran Salvi said that the duo had thrashed Kamble and kidnapped him after forcing him to sit on a motorcycle and took him to a field at Lonikand. The duo and others assaulted Kamble with sharp weapons over a petty dispute. Kamble who managed to escape from the spot died on December 12.
