Lankan films to be screened at NFAI
Pune: The Pune International Centre (PIC) and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) will screen a number of acclaimed films from Sri Lanka, as part of a film festival that is now in its eleventh year.
The festival will run from August 10 to August 13, and is free for all.
The films will be screened at the NFAI auditorium on ILS Law College Road.
Dharmasiri Bandaranayake, acclaimed Sri Lankan director and thespian, will inaugurate the festival on August 10. Bandaranayake's film Hansa Vilak is also part of the festival's official selection. The film was released in 1980.
Films made by acclaimed directors like Vimukthi Jayasundara, Asoka Handagama, Prasanna Vithanage, and Bandaranayake will be screened at the festival.
The themes include romantic dramas, satires, supernatural films, as well as lives affected by the Sri Lankan Civil War.
Films like Let Her Cry and The Forsaken Land have been critically acclaimed at the festival circuit.
A number of Indian actors and technicians such as actor Dhritiman Chatterjee, and editor A Sreekar Prasad are also part of the films.
Jayasundara, an alumnus of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), was also part of the jury at the 2018 Pune International Film Festival.
