Kothrud warms up to fitness and fun on a cold Sunday morning

PUNE: Thousands of people attended the second episode of Happy Streets in Kothrud on a cold Sunday morning.

Shrikant Thakare Path was cordoned off from

Ashish Garden Chowk

to the Raja Kamal departmental store, which was buzzing with activities such as Zumba, folk dance, karaoke sessions, yoga and games from 6.30am to 9.30am.

The city-based Folk Fitness debuted at the season with their folk dance session. “The crowd was enthusiastic and the response was very good. It is nice to see so many energetic people coming together on a Sunday morning,” Tejal Pansare of Folk Fitness said.

A robot race organised by

Robotronics

was a new addition to this season as well. Over 200 people, especially children, queued up to try their hand at the smartphone-controlled cars.

“The children seem very inquisitive and want to know more about how robots are made and their connection to smartphones. This shows that fun and education go hand-in-hand,” founder of Robotronics Rupeshri Gurave said.

, a resident of

Katraj

said, “I have attended several Happy Streets before and I can say that it is just getting better. Before there was just Zumba, cycling and yoga but now there are so many other things added. Unfortunately the event does not happen in our area. I hope they will soon extend the happiness to Katraj.”

“I love the carnival-like mood. Usually the road is so crowded that we feel the space is insufficient but now that the vehicles are banned I have realised how spacious the roads are,” a resident of Kothrud, Rajeev Patil, said.

Apart from Zumba and the dance workout sessions, people enjoyed the flash mob which showcased several dance forms. The band members of VJ live stage donned

Santa

caps to go with the festive season. They hosted karaoke sessions that were well received by the citizens. The sports arena was dominated by games such as football and volleyball. People were also seen playing badminton. The children were enjoying their morning with outdoor activities such as skipping, hopping, cycling, and solving jigsaw puzzles.

Cashing in on the opportunity were the restaurants on the stretch that opened up early. One of them was also seen serving ‘Happy Streets breakfast’.
