PUNE: Three men on a motorcycle robbed cash and gold ornaments worth over Rs 2.90 lakh from a jeweller and his brother, who were on another motorcycle, at Srikrishna colony in Kalewadi on Thursday night.
Sub-inspector Sharad Jadhav of the Wakad police station said that the jeweller Sabir Shaikh (32) and his brother, both residents of Kalewadi, were on their way home after closing their shop.
They were carrying a bag containing 12 tolas of gold ornaments and Rs 12,000 in cash.
"It appears to be a planned robbery. The three men followed the duo. They then came from behind and hit Shaikh's motorcycle. Shaikh tried to hold on to the bag, however, one of the suspects snatched it and fled from the spot. The incident took place around 9.40pm," Jadhav said.
Jadhav said that the CCTV cameras installed at other shops have captured blurred images of the suspects.
"We are in the process of improving the images and also working on some clues. The suspects will be arrested soon," he said.
Shaikh, proprietor of S B Jewellers, has registered a complaint against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, Jadhav added.
