Infosys Pune celebrates its 20th year anniversary
Pune: Infosys Pune Development Center (DC), the company’s largest center by strength, has completed its 20th anniversary and celebrated the same last week.
As per a statement issued by the firm, the DC is one of the most eco-friendly campuses through significant sustainability practices that include smart buildings with highest efficiency standards, smart water meters that determines real-time consumption pattern and detects leakages and the newly commissioned BioUrja (Biogas) plant that is designed to treat 2000 KPD of food waste. The Infosys Pune campuses uses 8% of renewable energy which is a combination of wind and solar.
Pravin Kulkarni, DC Head – Infosys Pune, Phase II, said, “From a fledgling DC with just 150 employees in 1996 to a majestic eagle now with over 38,000 employees, it has been a challenging metamorphosis for the Pune DC, which is growing at a tremendous pace. As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our DC, we are proud to be part of one of the most beautiful Infosys campuses in India.”
Infosys had started in the city when Narayana Murthy and six engineers started the company as Infosys Consultants Pvt Ltd in Pune in 1981. From the center’s humble inception in 1996 with 150 employees, the DC has witnessed growth in various respects – it has progressed to over 38,000 employees over the last two decades, expanded to two software development blocks spread across 5 lakh mt sq space and houses some of the most sustainable buildings in the world.
The CSR arm of the Pune DC, Sparsh- A healing Touch’, focuses on areas such as education, medical aid and relief to the poor. Some of the activities of ‘Sparsh’ involved construction of a school building in Mann village, blood donation campus, breast cancer awareness session, health check-ups, stem cell donor registration drives among others.
