In two cases, robbers hit men coming from banks

PUNE: Within a span of three hours on Wednesday, two incidents of people returning from

banks

being robbed of their cash took place. In both the cases, it is suspected that the

robbers

had followed their victims from the banks.

In the first incident, two men followed the employees of Satish Sathe, a businessman, from a bank in

Sangvi

at around 11.30 am; broke the window of their car and made away with Rs 50,000. Sathe lodged a complaint with the Sangvi police. He said he had sent his accountant and driver to the bank to withdraw Rs 50,000. “The withdrawn money was put in a pouch and kept in the car. My accountant and driver returned home to pick up some more cash. They parked the car in front of the bungalow and stepped inside,” Sathe said. “When they went out after 15 minutes, they found the window glass of the car broken and the pouch missing.

CCTV footage

showed two men fleeing the spot on a scooter. “I went to the bank and checked the CCTV footage there. We found the robber duo were following my staff from the bank. One of them was inside the bank when my accountant was withdrawing the money,” Sathe said.

On the same day at about 2 pm, 65-year-old Ram Mane was targetted by 2 men, who snatched the elderly man’s bag containing Rs50,000 at

Dange Chowk

. Mane needed the cash for a marriage function at his native place. On Wednesday, Mane had gone to the bank and had withdrawn Rs 50,000. “I kept the bag in the dickey of my scooter and returned home. While I was locking the scooter after parking in front of my home, two men on a two-wheeler snatched my bag and fled,” Mane said. “I tried to chase them, and then later lodged a complaint with the Wakad police.”
