PUNE: An auto-rickshaw driver handed over to the police a bag containing 150gm gold ornaments, two cellphones and two wrist watches collectively worth Rs 4.50 lakh that a 48-year-old woman from Thane had forgotten in his vehicle recently.
After receiving a complaint from the woman, the Vishrambaug police swung into action and traced the registration number of the auto-rickshaw, the driver’s name and address within an hour.
While the police were about to leave for the driver’s address, the latter himself came to the police station and handed over the bag containing gold ornaments.
Arti Arun Kadam, a resident of Khopat in Thane had come to Anandnagar on Sinhagad Road in Pune for some function. On April 29, she hired an auto-rickshaw at Anandnagar and got down at Kesariwada. “After the auto-rickshaw left, Kadam realised that she had forgotten her bag containing Mangalsutra, two necklaces, a pair of ear rings, two cellphones and two wrist watches in the auto-rickshaw,” said senior inspector Shrikant Shinde of Vishrambaug police.
Kadam then reported the matter to the police. Police constables Sudhir Bhilare and Prakash Ovhal checked the CCTV cameras and also asked Kadam to try calling her mobile numbers. “Meanwhile our constables traced the auto-rickshaw’s number with the help of CCTV cameras and also traced the name and address of the driver Sagar Prakash Bibve of Vadgaon Budruk,” Shinde said.
Shinde said that Kadam has appreciated the driver’s honesty and also the efforts taken by the Vishrambaug police, he said.
