Helmetless scooter rider dies in crash

PUNE: Scooter rider Hamid Murtuza Hussain (34) died and his friend was critically injured as the former failed to spot a speed breaker and the vehicle hit the road median near Market Yard on Monday morning.
A plumber by profession, Hussain was not wearing a helmet. His friend, Arman Khan (26) of Kondhwa, was injured in his leg.
“The accident occurred around 5.30am when Hussain was on his way to the Pune railway station to drop his friend.

Khan was supposed to take a train to Uttar Pradesh,” said S S Dhumal, sub-inspector of the Market Yard police station.
“Hussain died of severe injuries in his face. A helmet could have saved his life,” he added.
“He failed to spot the speed breaker near the Vakhar Mahamandal. The scooter flung into the air and crashed into the median,” Dhumal said.
Hussain’s face hit the median and he died on the spot.
