PUNE: Parts of Maharashtra can expect a wave of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the coming four days starting September 24.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for

Konkan

and Goa regions, citing heavy, very heavy and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places.

"Till September 27, heavy rainfall and at times very heavy rainfall can be expected over central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa," said an IMD official.

Pune will also receive moderate to heavy rainfall in the coming four days. "The southwest monsoon has been vigorously active over Marathwada, Konkan and Goa in the last 24 hours. The well marked low pressure area over north coastal Andhra Pradesh and adjoining areas of south Chhattisgarh and Telangana now lies over Telangana and adjoining areas over south Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha. This will cause good rainfall over Maharashtra in the coming days," said the official.

In the last 24-hours Mumbai received heavy monsoon showers with

Colaba

observatory recording 45 mm rainfall from 8:30 am on Thursday. Heavy spells measuring 39.7 mm were recorded at the

Santa Cruz

observatory during the same period. Though the rains have now reduced, possibilities of heavy spells over some parts of Mumbai cannot be ruled out in the coming days.

Similarly Marathwada will get moderate to heavy rains in the next 48 hours. Other parts of Maharashtra will receive moderate showers at many places till September 27. Heavy rainfall is expected over Vidarbha till September 27. On September 28 and 29, rain intensity will increase over Konkan and Goa and central Maharashtra. The maximum temperatures will be in range of 26 and 34 degrees and minimum temperatures will be between 18 and 24 degrees.

According to the recent India Meteorological Department (IMD) rainfall data, the country as a whole will continue to suffer a 5% deficit whereas its only the central part of the country that has a surplus of 3%. Over all for India, cumulative rainfall during this year's monsoon upto September 21 been 5% below Long Period Average (LPA). The cumulative rainfall was excess to normal in 28 and deficient in 8 out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions.
