“Recession is a reality, which is affecting many countries across the globe, and some are expecting a possible recession in India after June. We will try our best to mitigate the impact of such a possible recession on the common people,” the minister said after inaugurating the first Infrastructure Working Group meeting in Pune, as a part of the G20 events in India.

Rane also dismissed suggestions that India’s G20 presidency logo, which prominently features a lotus, was inspired by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s election and party symbol. He said the lotus on the G20 logo represents sustainable development for all.

The minister also weighed in on the months-long debate on prominent investments “leaving” Maharashtra, adding that there was a history of similar projects “coming back” to the state.

Earlier, he spoke to the delegates, including bureaucrats and diplomats from the G20 member countries and blocs at a closed-door inauguration, urging them to discuss solutions on urban infrastructure issues, as well as building climate resilient infrastructure and sustainable development, according to a release by organizers.
