PUNE: Adventure club Giripremi welcomed the new year by successfully summiting the 300 ft high rock faces of fort Jivdhan in Naneghat region. The rock climbing expedition involved two simultaneous climbs from two routes of south west face of the fort.
A statement issued by Giripremi said that, the expedition took place between December 31 and January 3 and the climbers used advanced equipment such as Friends, which is a spring loaded camming device, for anchoring protection.
The statement said that Friends is a kind of device which can be inserted in rock cracks and with the help of a rope, climber can secure himself by passing his/her rope through friends. These friends are available in various shapes and sizes. This helps in reducing the impact on the rocks. After the climb, they can be removed without damaging the rock and can be used for future expeditions. Such an environmental friendly device it is that it is named as ‘Friends’.
This face is first time climbed by team Giripremi and they have named it as ‘Shivgiri Face’. This thrilling expedition was led by Everester Ganesh More. Pawan Hadole, Sanket Dhotre, Aniket Kulkarni, Dr. Sumit Mandale, Bhushan Shet, Samiran Kolhe, Kiran Salastekar participated in this expedition. Dipali Biradar, Anuj Jangid, Jitendra Gaware, Abhijit Deshmukh, Prasad Joshi and Kaustubh Thakar supported the climbing team.
Senior climbers Umesh Zirpe, Avinash Faujdar provided valuable guidance to the climbers. Thus, team welcomed the year 2016 in an entirely adventurous way.
