Gait helps police arrest burglar, Motihari jeweller he sold booty to

Pune: The standout walking style of a burglar captured in CCTV footage helped the Mahalunge MIDC police crack a jewellery burglary case of September last year. The police not only arrested the burglar but also recovered the stolen 260g of gold ornaments he had sold to a jeweller in Bihar's Motihari. The Mahalunge MIDC police team, led by senior inspector Nitin Gite, recently arrested the burglar, Tullu Kumar Raut (25). Currently residing at Pawar Vasti in Chikhali, Raut hails from East Champaran district in Bihar. The jeweller, Baleshwar Sah (45) of Motihari, was also arrested and the burgled jewellery were recovered from him.Assistant police inspector Kalyan Ghadge of the Mahalunge MIDC police said a resident (42) of Kuruli in Khed taluka lodged a complaint on September 20 last year, stating that someone broke into his house between 11.30am and 12.45 pm and made off with 260g of gold jewellery. He was at his workplace and his wife was at their footwear shop then. "We recovered CCTV footage from the area and identified a person with a standout gait. Our men questioned several men, but the suspect was not traceable," Ghadge said.He said when police constable Ganesh Gaikwad was returning from the parade last week, he noticed a person with the walking style identical to that of the suspect. "We took him into custody for questioning. During the sustained interrogation, he admitted to his involvement in the burglary and revealed that he had sold the gold ornaments to a jeweller in Bihar," the officer said.Ghadge said the suspect, Raut, worked in an automobile ancillary firm in the Chakan area. Raut claimed that he was in need of money because his wife was not keeping well and undergoing treatment in Bihar. "He started committing thefts for money. After some minor thefts, he broke into the house in Kuruli on September 20 and stole 260g of gold jewellery. On the next day, he left for Bihar and sold the jewellery there," Ghadge said.He said Raut returned to Pune in December last year and started working again.
