Former owner of famous Multani Bakery, Sunil Motilal Sadarangani jumps to death from 17th floor
KOLHAPUR: Sunil Motilal Sadarangani (59), former owner of Solapur’s well-known Multani Bakery, allegedly died by suicide on Thursday afternoon by jumping from the 17th floor of an apartment building in the Vijapur Road area of the city.
Police said no suicide note was found and the family informed them that he had been facing financial problems.
Police said Sadarangani had shifted to Pune after selling the bakery some years ago.
At around 2.30 pm on Thursday, he drove to the apartment building in Solapur, parked his car and took the stairs to reach the top floor to avoid biometric check-in.
He was initially seen walking along the side portion of the terrace. After a security guard noticed him, the guard took him down to the 10th floor and tried to convince him.
However, Sadarangani asked the guard to go away and went back up, saying he had left his car keys behind. By the time the security guard reached the terrace again, Sadarangani had jumped, police said. He died on the spot.
Police confirmed his identity using the car’s registration number.
Solapur commissioner of Police M Rajkumar said, “He had shifted to Pune. The family told us that he was undergoing psychological issues and was in debt, which led him to take this step. We are yet to record statements from the family members as they are grieving. There is no foul play detected so far in the case, and no suicide note was found.”
A close relative told TOI, “Sadarangani belonged to the Sindhi community. His father, Motilal, started the bakery, which later became famous. The family also ran a flour mill. Sunil Sadarangani took over the business after his father passed away, but sold it due to debt. He is survived by two sons—one settled abroad and the other in Pune, where he had shifted four years ago.”
The last rites of Sadarangani were performed on Friday evening in Solapur. As he was the third generation of his family to grow up in the city, a large number of people gathered at the crematorium.
