PUNE: A design submitted by Nirzar Pangarkar, a third year computer science student of the Fergusson College, has been selected for the Pune traffic police website, which will be launched soon.
Pangarkar's entry was selected from among 150 designs submitted by software experts, students and other citizens in a contest announced by the city traffic police three months back.
Incidentally, Pangarkar has been the winner in the BBC Photoshop contest. He won the second prize in the web design contest organised by the University of Pune in 2009, and in the MTV design contest in 2010. Pangarkar, who has been involved in web development and web applications for the last four years, has developed web designs for various companies.
According to Manoj Patil, DCP, traffic, total 15 designs had been selected in the first phase. A nine-member panel, comprising experts from the Science and Technology Park, MCCIA and other institutions had selected five designs in the final phase. Citizens were also asked to vote for the web designs through social networking sites. Of the 100 marks for each design, a maximum of 20 marks had been assigned for citizen votes. In the final result, Pangarkar's design was selected by the panel. Nirzar will be given a cash award and a citation by the traffic police.
The traffic police, in association with the Janwani of the MCCIA, have been working on developing the website for the last few months. The website, which is to be launched soon, will provide comprehensive details on the traffic situation and also provide transport helplines and information for citizens.
