pune:the chain hunger strike launched by former congress corporator gopal tiwari and 20 other congress party workers from shivajinagar, to protest against the move to hand over the jorwekar municipal hospital land to poona hospital, entered its second day on tuesday. mr tiwari, who is staging the protest at the pune municipal corporation gates, said that five corporators from the shivajinagar area, including ajit apte, ramdas pawar, mukari algude, satish dhotre and sanjay balgude, besides former mayor vandana chavan and corporator ramesh khanna, have called on the protestors and expressed solidarity with the cause.
municipal commissioner t.c. benjamin too called on them and pointed out to them that the poor patients would benefit from the super speciality services provided by the poona hospital, which were not available at the sassoon and kamla nehru civic hospitals.
