Famed FTII alumni to pay tribute to Hrishida

), Pune, will organise Smarananjali, a two-day event in memory of filmmaker-editor Hrishikesh Mukherjee, on its campus on September 30 and October 1.

tributes to “Hrishida”, as he was fondly called, a statement issued by the institute said. The filmmaker’s birthday is on September 30.

Noted filmmaker and FTII alumnus Kundan Shah will inaugurate the event in the presence of veteran actors Ramesh Deo, Seema Deo and others.

Over the weekend,

Hrishida

will be remembered for his sterling contribution to the film industry, as director and film editor. Over a series of panel discussions, presentations and film screenings, the unique comedy in his films, his mentoring of actors, his unmatched editing style and his qualities of head and heart will be remembered.

Renowned actor Jaya Bachchan, MP and FTII alumna, who acted in some of Hrishida’s landmark films, will be the chief guest at the closing ceremony on October 1. Bachchan will introduce her debut film Guddi, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

Smarananjali is FTII's way of remembering the departed icons of Indian cinema. In April, we remembered legendary cinematographer V K Murthy. Now, the institute’s editing department has taken the initiative to reveal the best-known and lesser-known aspects of Hrishida’s life and work as an editor and filmmaker, recounted by those who were closely associated with him,” says Bhupendra Kainthola, FTII director.

Besides Guddi, Satyakaam and Chupke Chupke, which will be screened during the two-day event, the audience will also get to watch Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s other memorable films --- Anand, Golmal, Mili and Namak Haram.

Entry to the event and all the film screenings are not chargeable and open to the general public.
