Pune: Two men were robbed of their cellphones, collectively worth Rs17,000, by a man posing as a cop in Kalyaninagar around 9pm on Sunday.
According to the police, the incident occurred when the duo were taking a stroll near their paying guest accommodation in Adarshnagar. “One of the victims, a software engineer (21), told the police that the suspect, who appeared to be in his late 20s, stopped and told them that he was a ‘secret police officer’ who wanted to check their cellphones,” sub-inspector Ankush Dombale of the Yerawada police said on Tuesday.
Dombale said the suspect accused the techie and his friend, who is from Nepal and is working as a doctor in a private hospital, of clicking photos and shooting videos of two men and threatened to take action against them if the allegations were found to be true.
The duo showed him their phones saying that they have not indulged in such acts but the suspect took their phones on the pretext of checking and sped away before the duo could react, the officer said.
