Errant civic staffers under Pune Municipal Corporation’s watch

PUNE: The civic administration will intensify its watch at its offices from next week to act against errant staffers not being present at their desks during work hours, a senior official from the PMC’s general administration department said.

Over 150 staffers were issued notices during a drive held a few months ago.

Vikram Gaikwad, a civic activist, said the presence of staffers was always low at ward offices. “We are often told the office is working at limited strength,” he said.

A Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) official said, “The staffers are not expected to leave the office unless there is any official work or meeting. The working hours have been defined. We have instructed the head of departments to maintain a register to monitor the movement of staffers.”

Ajay Konde, who recently visited the ward office at Yerawada, said PMC should make alternate arrangements in case the staffers leave the office.
