In fact, Murar has gone missing after ACB additional superintendent of police Fattehsinh Gaikwad registered a case against the four under the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code. The case was registered with the Chatushrunghi police on Friday evening.
All four suspects were with the state police motor transport department, Aundh, at the time of the purchase of the spares.
In a statement issued on Friday night, ACB additional superintendent of police Subhash Anirudh said the government had asked the ACB to initiate an inquiry against the officials in 2006.
Anirudh told TOI over telephone that the ACB had examined all the tenders approved by the motor transport department between 2003 and 2006 and found that the department had approved tenders of M/s United Electro Diesels of Aurangabad for the purchase of diesel filters, oil filter elements and spark plugs worth Rs 2.81 in 2003.
According to the ACB, the firm had submitted bills for payment after the suspects confirmed that the goods were of superior quality. An ACB inquiry, however, revealed that material worth Rs 1.39 lakh supplied by the firm was faulty.
The ACB said that after the fraud surfaced, the officials, in an attempt to cover their alleged acts, had send a forged letter to the firm asking for replacement of the goods.
Deputy Superintendent of Police T C Doshi of the ACB is investigating the case under the guidance of superintendent of police Vishwas Pandhare.
