PUNE: The senior Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist, arrested in a spying case, was on Tuesday remanded in judicial custody till May 29.
The court of additional sessions judge, P P Jadhav, ordered his judicial custody. The scientist, arrested on May 3 by the state anti-terrorism squad (ATS), was later sent to the Yerawada central jail.
His lawyer, Rushikesh Ganu, told TOI, "We will take a call on moving a bail application after discussing with our client. We are yet to get details of the ATS investigation. For now, we have only copies of the remand reports furnished by the ATS while seeking custodial remands till date."
Earlier in the day, investigating officer Sujata Tanawade and her team produced the scientist before the court. Public prosecutor Chandrakiran Salvi furnished a report on behalf of the ATS. The court had initially remanded the scientist in police custody till May 9 and later extended the same till May 15 before granting a one-day extension, which ended on Tuesday. As such, his remand in judicial custody was on the expected lines.
Ganu moved an application seeking the court's permission to enable the scientist, who suffers from high sugar levels, secure prescribed medicines in jail. The court allowed the plea but clarified that the accused won't get any special medical treatment other than the prescribed medicines.
