DFA Mumbai enter CMS Cup semifinals

Pune: DFA Mumbai edged Gorkha FC Nanded out via penalty shootout to enter the semifinals of at the CMS Champions Cup state-level football tournament organized by Chinchwad Malayalee Samajam and CMS Falcons Club in Nigdi on Thursday.
After a goalless first half (35 mins), the game came to life in the second as both teams scored late. Asad Sayyed for DFA and Abdalla Ali for Gorkha FC scored to level the tie 1-1 at full time. In the resulting tie breaker, it was DFA who kept their cool to progress to the last four.
On Wednesday evening, Amar FC prevailed 3-0 over Milan Boys Beed in a second-round clash which saw the latter receive three red cards in the second half for violent conduct. CMS Falcons A and JJ United failed to find the net in regulation time. Then a dramatic penalty shootout saw six players miss their spot kicks before the Falcons prevailed.
Results (quarterfinals): DFA Mumbai: 1 (Asad Sayyed 62’) drew with Gorkha FC Nanded: 1 (Abdalla Ali 64’); DFA Mumbai advance 4-2 via penalties. (Round 2): Amar FC 3 (Vivan Dey 25’, Varun Lad 42’, Gaurav Swaminathan 59’) beat Milan Boys Beed 0; CMS Falcons ‘A’: 0 drew with JJ United: 0, CMS Falcons ‘A’ advance 3-2 via penalties.
Prisha stuns Aishwarya to enter Under-16 semis
Kolhapur: Prisha Shinde of Maharashtra and T Sai Janvi of Karnataka entered the girls’ semifinals of the Ramesh Desai Memorial U-16 tennis tournament in Kolhapur on Thursday.
In an all-Maharashtra girls’ last-eight clash, 14-year-old Prisha upset Kolhapur’s sixth seed Aishwarya Jadhav 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 while Sai toppled fifth seed Yashika Shokeen of Delhi 6-2, 6-4 .
Nainika Bendram Reddy tamed Divya Ungrish of Delhi 6-2, 6-4 while Rishitha Basireddy of Telangana outplayed Akanksha Ghosh of West Bengal 6-3, 6-1.
In the boys’ quarterfinals, Delhi lad Praneel Sharma eased past Gandharv Kothapalli of Karnataka 6-2, 6-3. He will meet Samarth Sahita of Maharashtra in the semis.
