PUNE: A 42-year-old farmer from Junnar tehsil in the district allegedly died by suicide because he did not get a good price for his stocked onions and some of the vegetables rotted in the rain over the past few days, the rural police said.

Dashrath Kedari from Wadgaon Anand village, about 70km from Pune, also faced losses in other crops such as tomatoes. Abhinav Deshmukh, the superintendent of police, told TOI: “The relatives of Kedari have handed a suicide note, which is written in Marathi, to us. We are going to refer to handwriting experts to confirm that it was his handwriting.”

He said, “Preliminary probe revealed that he had a debt of Rs2 lakh.He was under stress and finding it difficult to repay the loans he had taken. We are investigating all the aspects of the case.”
