NEW DELHI: A minor fire broke out in the lavatory of a moving Daund-Pune shuttle train near Yevat in Pune district on Monday morning at around 8 am, when a passenger allegedly threw a lit bidi into a dustbin, causing panic among passengers.
A 55-year-old person from Madhya Pradesh was detained in connection with the incident, according to a railway spokesperson.
The fire started when papers and other trash in the dustbin caught fire after the passenger disposed of the smoking material in the DEMU (Diesel Electric Multiple Unit) train.
"The incident occurred around 8 am. There were papers and other trash in the bin, which caught fire, resulting in smoke billowing from the toilet and causing panic among passengers," said an official from Daund railway police station.
The official mentioned that only a few passengers were present in that coach at the time of the incident.
Railway authorities quickly extinguished the blaze, and no injuries were reported in the incident.
