PUNE: The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute on Monday celebrated the 95th birth anniversary of its former secretary and noted scholar, the late Dr R.N. Dandekar.
The scholar’s wife, Indumati, donated a rare collection of some 5,000 books on oriental research to the institute on the occasion. Former institute librarian and Dandekar’s biographer, Dr V.L. Manjul, sa id the collection incorporates six volumes of vedic bibliography by Dandekar, original vedic manuscripts and their translations, a collection of 400 research articles by Dandekar and international magazines to which Dandekar contributed.
“A special room will be created in the institute library for Dandekar’s works,� Manjul said. Dr S. N. Pathan, director, state higher education, who was present on the occasion, expressed interest in sorting out the financial problems faced by the institute.
Oriental scholar S.D. Joshi released Dandekar’s autobiography on the occasion. Artist B.N. Paranjpe donated his large portrait of Dandekar to the institute.
