PUNE: Naresh Dadhich took over charge as the new director of Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) from outgoing director Jayant Narlikar on Friday.
Addressing a small gathering on the occasion, Narlikar urged the IUCAA family to extend its support and affection to the new director.
Naresh Dadhich said that with support from all the committed colleagues and friends, he would strive to take up the challenge and continue IUCAA’s forward march.
He hoped that Narlikar would continue to offer his wise counsel.
Born on September 1, 1944, at Sarsali village in Churu district of Rajasthan, Dadhich studied at various places like Pilani, Hissar,Vallabh Vidyanagar and finally in Pune, where he did his Ph D in general relativity under the guidance of the doyen of Indian relativists, V.V. Narlikar.
Subsequently, he joined the faculty of mathematics at the University of Pune,where he continued till February 1988, when he was invited to initiate the setting up of the IUCAA as its project co-ordinator.
Dadhich is on the visiting faculty of the University of Natal at Durham, in South Africa, and has ongoing collaboration with gravity research groups in Portsmouth, UK, and Bilbao, Spain. He is an active and accomplished physicist of repute and works in classical and quantum gravity and relativistic astrophysics.
Along with his several collaborators, he has published over 100 papers in internationally reputed journals.
